Hanover County Sheriff’s Office

The Ashland Volunteer Fire Company (AVFC) is proud to partner with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) to keep our community safe. HCSO is a dedicated team of law enforcement professionals who share our commitment to Hanover’s well-being. AVFC’s first due response district includes areas outside of the Town of Ashland where HCSO is the primary law enforcement agency.

A Collaborative Approach

The AVFC and HCSO work together closely on a daily basis answering calls for service. This collaboration extends to:

  • Joint Emergency Response: In many emergency situations, both fire and law enforcement services are required. The AVFC and HCSO have established protocols for coordinated response, ensuring a swift and effective resolution to emergencies. Sheriff’s deputies carry Automated External Defibrillators (AED) and have first responder training to assist firefighters in emergency medical calls when needed. They are also present and often investigate accidents that do not occur on Interstates’ 95 and 295.
  • Community Outreach: The AVFC and HCSO frequently collaborate on community outreach programs. These initiatives include events such as National Night Out, as well as educating residents on fire safety, crime prevention, and personal preparedness.
  • Joint Teams: Hanover Fire-EMS and HCSO maintain multiple partnerships that provide for a safer community. Paramedics from Hanover Fire-EMS are embedded in the HCSO Special Operations section, while members of the Office of the Fire Marshal and HCSO regularly work together on investigations to make the community safer.
